Adam Deacon Gets Stopped By Police Because Of Fashion

Adam Deacon gets stopped by police regularly.

The 'KIDULTHOOD' actor - who is from Hackney, north east London - says that, despite being famous, he still gets pulled over because he wears a hoodie and a baseball cap.

Adam keeps a copy of his movie 'Anuvahood' - which he starred in, co-wrote and co-directed and which earned him the BAFTA Rising Star Award in February - in his car which he can show police to prove he is who he says he is.

The 29-year-old actor - who has previously claimed he has been harassed by the law since he was 16 - said: ''People say to me, 'Put a shirt on, or a jumper.' But I've never changed my fashion sense and I still go out with a cap and a hoodie on, and because of that I expect to be stopped. I put a copy of 'Anuvahood' in the glove department, so when they stop me, the police say, 'Ah, OK, he's not a drug dealer, he's just an actor.' ''

The star - who was raised on a tough council estate and ended up living in hostels after arguments with his mother and her boyfriend - has never been in trouble with the police but he admits his upbringing has led to people stereotyping him in his career.

Speaking about his starring role in violent British film 'Kidulthood', he told The Independent on Sunday newspaper: ''I was excited about representing a side to London that you don't normally see, so I went out of my way to make [my character] Jay authentic with the slang and dialogue. But afterwards I worried that when [producers and directors] heard my accent, they'd forget I was an actor. I imagined them saying, 'Isn't he just a guy they picked up on the estate.' ''
