The singer, real name Stuart Goddard, was in the country for a gig and became sick after accidentally swallowing ice made from locally-sourced water, which holidaymakers are advised against drinking.

Ant, who has endured several stints of psychiatric treatment over the years due to mental health problems, subsequently experienced a "post-viral fatigue syndrome" and was put on mood-disorder pills.

He tells Britain's Esquire magazine, "We did a gig in Mexico and you're not supposed to drink the water there and some idiot put an ice cube in my drink. I got acute mononucleosis, glandular fever.

"It's a post-viral fatigue syndrome, so I couldn't f**king do anything, and that's when they put me on anti-depressants."

Last year (11), the star vowed to launch a global campaign against anti-depressants, insisting they stifled his creativity for seven years.
