Actor Andy Griffith Died Of A Heart Attack

Andy Griffith, the legendary actor, singer and comedian who passed away earlier this week, died of a heart attack, according to his death certificate which was obtained by the News and Record. Griffith suffered an "acute myocardial infarction", about 24 hours before his death, which occurred at 7am on Tuesday (July 3, 2012).

The certificate - provided by the Dare County Register of Deeds Office - lists secondary factors contributing to the death as coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipimedia, which is related to high cholesterol. The actor died at his home in Manteo on Roanoke Island in Dare County - he was 86. He was pronounced dead at the Mountain Hill Farm, though no autopsy was performed, according to the certificate. Interestingly, the burial came just five hours after Griffith's death. The actor - a Tony Award nominee - initially gained prominence in a starring role in Elia Kazan's movie 'A Face in the Crowd'. However, he became better known for his television roles such as 'The Andy Griffith Show' and the legal drama 'Matlock', which ran from 1986-1995.

Griffith also tasted success as a singer, and recorded numerous successful albums of classic Christian hymns. His most successful release 'I Love to Tell the Story: 25 Timeless Hymns', was certified platinum by the Riaa in 1996. In 2008, he appeared in country star Brad Paisley's music video 'Waitin' on a Woman'.
