Abdul Star Search Talks Fall To Earth
The former American Idol judge was believed to be in talks with ABC network bosses to bring back the show, which first hit screens in 1983 and gave dancers, singers and comedians a chance of fame.
The series ran until 1995 and featured performances from future stars including Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears in the early 1990s.
TV bosses were reportedly eager to land established TV judge Abdul as head of a panel on a rejuvenated version of the show.
But according to Reuters, Abdul's demands for a $5 million (£3.3 million) pay packet couldn't be met, and the negotiations abruptly ended.
The former pop star reportedly stepped down as a long-term judge on Idol last year (09) over her pay deal.
