Aaliyah Project 'About Her And Her Fans'

Drake assures the new Aaliyah project is ''about her and her fans.''

The rapper unveiled a new track, 'Enough Said', which features him alongside singer - who died in a plane crash in 2001 - last week, but assures the posthumous album he is working on with producer Noah '40' Shebib will be about her legacy rather than his career.

In a video interview with Much Music, he said: ''People should be really excited. People thought it was my single, it's not my single. It's all off of an Aaliyah project that me and 40 are commanding and 40's just doing some incredible, some incredible music right now.

''To get 13, 14 new Aaliyah songs, everybody should be excited. It's not about me. It's not about 40. It's about her and her fans and us just getting the opportunity to give you something that we feel is great.''

Members of Drake's family have appeared unsure about the project, with her brother Rashad Haughton claiming there is no official album in the pipeline, while Timbaland has said he and Missy Elliott should both be involved with any new project featuring the singer's vocals, as they were when she was alive.

However, Drake assured he has The Blessing of Aaliyah's family and estate and is planning to involve those who worked with the 'Rock the Boat' singer when she was alive.

He added: ''The people around her, everybody from her family to her old management and label, were like, 'If there's anyone out that can do it right now, it's you and 40.'

''And that was an honour and we're going to pull in some classic people, anybody who used to work with Aaliyah that was essential in her career we definitely Hope to have them involved. So it's great. You get a new Aaliyah album this year on top of everything.''

No release date has yet been revealed for the album.
