9/11 Film-makers Slam 'Cashing In' Claims

Film-makers working on OLIVER STONE's upcoming 9/11 movie WORLD TRADE CENTER have slammed claims they are cashing in on the 2001 terrorist attacks, insisting the movie is about heroism. World Trade Center, which stars NICOLAS CAGE, tells the story the last two people found alive in the rubble of the collapsed twin towers, and their rescuer. Some relatives of people who died have spoken out against Stone's film, because they do not want to relive their initial pain following the attacks. But producer MORITZ BORMAN says, "I know there is one widow out there who didn't want it to be made because she felt it was too painful to see her husband die. But I am convinced that when she sees it she will be resolved. "We never went out to explore the whole story of 9/11 and its impact on America and the rest of the world. "Nobody went into this film and thought this was the explanation for why 9/11 happened or its geopolitical impact. It's a tale of heroism."

The accusation that the 9/11 film makers are "cashing in" is simply ludicrous. It is merely a story based around a real event. Would you accuse Herman Woulk of cashing in on WWII and the Holocost for his epic tome, "The Winds of War"? Of course not. Writing or creating films based on current events is how the creators of such art stay relevant with their audience.

"As for the criticism that Oliver Stone is "cashing in" by making this movie, why wasn't the same criticisms leveled at the filmmakers of "United 93," released earlier this year???"Um.Actually . . . . . . the same criticisms were aimed at the filmmakers of United 93.

This is for all the nuts that think that this was an "inside job". How did they get all those explosives into the World Trade Center without anyone noticing? How did they get the terrorists to take credit for it? It hurt the terrorists, not helped them. Wouldn't someone notice all the work being done to prepare the building for demolition? Why is it that EYEWITNESSES saw a plane fligh low and hit the Pentagon? If a plane did not hit the Pentagon, what happened to all the people that were on that plane? You have nothing but a very crazy theory that has more holes than a spaghetti strainer.

Why are these film makers slammed for exactly what the Bush Administration has done? George W. Bush built his political fortunes, now turned sour, on the corpses of the 9/11 victims.

Michael Moore is the chief 9.11.2001 profiteer. I have called on him to donate some of the money he made off his piece of fiction at the expense of our fellow Americans who were killed that day.

To all 9-11 conspiracy "theorists":Grow up, pull your head out of your backsides. Anyone who claims 9-11 was an inside job, a Mossad plot, etc., needs psychological help. 9-11 was a dose of reality that should have snapped you out of your black helicopter-induced fantasy world. The world is a dangerous place and manypeople want to kill Americans (even before Bush took office). They even want to kill you, the enlightened ones, no matter how much you sympathize with these murderers and twist the facts around to justify their actions.George Bush has driven you all insane. Until recently, it was slightly amusing to see you all attack the president, come up with outrageously nutty explanations for world events, and all come to an agreement on how it is all Bush's fault. They first attacked us in 1993 and continued to do so until now. No one's really at fault for underestimating their resolve, bnot Clinton nor Bush, until after 9-11. Now anyone who does not see this for what it is, an attempt to roll back Western society's progress since the Enlightenment, is dangerous, and those who campaign to convince others of such is a danger to society at large. These useful idiots are more than idiots--they are unwittingly undermining any efforts to stop the advance of people who want us all dead or converted to Islam. Those who deny this do so at their peril--one need only to listen to any al-Qaeda statement or press release to find out what they're after. This is not the type of thing that one can cure with sympathy for the aggressors or a candlelight vigil. The aggressors make no distinction between liberals and conservatives, atheist and Christians. They hate you because you are an American, no matter who you voted for.Your parents should have disciplined you at least once--you are a spoiled brat trying to get attention. In order to speak truth to power, you must first speak truth. In order to know truth, you need to become objective and look at the facts. Until you do so, you and your brethren need a good spanking. Trying to outdo each other with your outrageous statements of hatred for America and its president is not discourse. It is sour grapes, misplaced anger, and, in many cases, insanity. The rhetoric has escalated to the point that some of you are aiding the enemy, whether intentionally or not. Freedom of speech does have limitations, as does freedom of the press.9-11 was an unprovoked attack with tragic results for all of us. It would serve you all to remember how you felt that day, in the time before the Left politicized the tragedy. When the history of this time is written, you will again find yourself on the wrong side, as you were with communism. Just be thankful you live in a society that does not kill you for speaking ill against its leaders (or for being gay or not having a beard or drawing a picture of Muhammed). You should thank God for this (if you didn't think that belief in God was for idiots) and for people who are willing to fight for our rights and well-being.If you're looking for a conspiracy, look at who is footing the bill for the peace movement. Look at who fought to avoid removing Saddam from power and why. While your at it, take a long look at yourself in the mirror. What would your grandparents think of you? I think you know the answer. . .That is all. . .

bil take a pil, The American Public needs constant reminders about what happened on 911 and the fact that the clintoons debilitated our military and sold our secrets off to the chinese, making this country unsafe. Oliver Stone is just not the one to do it. You all better get on the ground and kiss it and thank God the day GWB became President and started the fight to protect us instead of our previous cut and run pants wetters. You want demonrats??, you had it uncontrolled for 60 years and you see where it got us today. WW3 is ON folks, either stay and fight or "redeploy"

You're right about the fact that I have not seen the movie. I should have qualified my response. However, you're equally right about the fact that the movie is only three hours long and cannot tell every story. That's precisely the point at which I was driving. The fact that only some stories are told and not others in an attempt to paint a picture of "heroism" necessarily entails the trivialization of those whose stories are not told. That is, the very act of choosing which stories to tell elevates the subjects of those stories above others. This is obviously a problem with which every historian, artist, and philosopher must grapple. Indeed, reporting the entirety of an event is impossible. Such a statement does not imply that we should simply not make movies, write books, or attempt to create "histories," but it does imply that in the making of these works, certain people are submerged in furtherance of the "story," and that is where the problem resides: whose lives are really being honored? The answer to that question is obviously up for debate. In any event, I agree with you that offensive movies are important. That is why I hope the movie will reinvigorate discussion and debate of the events of September 11 and their aftermath.

It's still America and sometimes the brutal truth is more farreaching than any fictionalized account could ever be. I think a tragedy such as this makes us all think about what kind of world we are living in.It all comes down to choice. There is a fine line between entertainment and realism-gets you at the gut level which it should. Keep putting it out for those who wish to view:-)

Hmmm....I must have missed the part in the story that said the 9/11 families will be forced at gun point to watch this movie. If it's too painful, here's a weird approach: DON'T SEE IT! As for the criticism that Oliver Stone is "cashing in" by making this movie, why wasn't the same criticisms leveled at the filmmakers of "United 93," released earlier this year???
