50 Cent & Oscar De La Hoya Fight Over Boxing Plans
Earlier this week (beg23Jul12), the In Da Club hitmaker announced he was turning boxing promoter to help boost his incarcerated pal Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s career, and he took offence when Golden Boy Promotions boss De La Hoya appeared to poke fun at his plans in a tweet.
The former boxing champ wrote, "Everyone wanting to be a boxing promoter? Good luck. Easier said then done."
A brief Twitter war ensued between the two heavyweights and ended with 50 suggesting his fighter would no longer need De La Hoya's help to set up big boxing matches when he is released from jail.
The rapper wrote, "@oscardelahoya I don't gamble floyd do, but I bet you you won't be promoting Floyd mayweather no more (sic)."
De La Hoya's company has promoted a string of top fights for Mayweather, Jr.
Meanwhile, 50 Cent and his Tmt Promotions partners are expected to sign featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa and up-and-coming super middleweight Andre Dirrell as the company's first fighters, according to boxing news website BleacherReport.com.
Mayweather, Jr. has not yet been added to 50's stable of boxers, but the hip-hop star alluded to the fact his pal's money is tied up in the venture.
