30 Seconds To Mars - 30 Seconds To Mars Donating Boston Poster Proceeds To Bombings Charity Fund
Rockers 30 Seconds To Mars are donating the proceeds from a limited-edition poster designed for their show in Boston, Massachusetts to a fund for locals affected by the marathon bombings last month (Apr13).
The band, fronted by actor Jared Leto, will take to the stage in the city on Tuesday (07May13) and are planning to sell off a lithograph which features the words 'Boston Mars Love You', in response to the 15 April (13) atrocity, which left three people dead.
The proceeds from the poster will go towards The One Fund Boston, which was set up in the wake of the tragedy by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino to help those affected by the bombings.
A statement from Leto reads, "This tragedy hits close to home especially as my brother and I lived in Massachusetts and spent weekends in Boston off and on as children. That brief but special time will always be a part of who we are. We hope this small gesture helps in some way and lets the people of Boston know we are thinking of them and that we care. We are so proud to be able to play our very first show for this new album in Boston."
30 Seconds to Mars are the latest stars to offer financial support to the residents of Boston following the bombings - Selena Gomez will hand over $1 (62 pence) from every ticket sold for her show at the city's TD Garden venue on 12 October (13) to the same scheme, while Neil Diamond has pledged proceeds from his hit song Sweet Caroline, which is used as an anthem for local baseball team the Boston Red Sox.
