Queen Of The Stone Age - 3’S, 7’S And Number 1’S: Queens Of The Stone Age Rock To Top Of Billboard’S 200.

Queen Of The Stone Age ‘s new abum …Like Clockwork is ranked as No.1 on the Billboard 200. Not only is the top spot a first for the Californian rock band, but is also the first time their label, Matador Records (Interpol, Cat Power), has had a band ranked number one.

Qotsa sold 91,000 copies of their new album in its first week of release, with 12,000 vinyl Lp sales – accounting for 13% of total sales and emphasising the current revival enjoyed by the outdated format.

Unlike the album as a whole, lead single “My God Is The Sun” only peaked at No.17 on the singles chart.

Fronted by the multi-talented Josh Homme, the band have released six albums whilst each member also has side-projects bands on the go.

…Like Clockwork is the Queens’ first musical offering since 2007’s Era Vulgaris (which sold 52,000 copies in its first week), and signals a chart-topping return from a hiatus – beating Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and Sleeping With Siren’s Feel to the top branch of the musical tree.

Their second most successful charting album, however, was 2005’s Lullabies To Paralyze, which sold 97,000 first week copies but only made number 5 on the Billboard 200.

The success of …Like Clockwork could be attributed to the return of Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl who contributed drums to the new album in his reprisal of a role last visited on 2002’s Songs for the Deaf.

The band are set to celebrate their chart success at this weekend’s Download Festival where they’ll be performing a headline set on Saturday.
