24 Minutes To Be Restored To U.k. Version Of The Shining
For the first time, all 144 minutes of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining , starring Jack Nicholson, will be shown in Britain, beginning on Halloween. It will be 24 minutes longer than the version that has been shown in U.K. theaters and available on home video since 1980, when the movie was originally released. The restored film is being re-released by the British Film Institute. Jane Giles, the BFI's head of content, told today's (Friday) London Independent, "When we realized the U.S. version of The Shining hadn't been released in the U.K., we thought it would be a very interesting thing to do." She said that the film contains scenes that represent several "seminal moments" in filmmaking and that it is among classics that "have such incredibly powerful imagery that it resonates throughout decades."
