2012 Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced: But Will It Go Ahead?
The nominations for this year's Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced, though the ceremony still doesn't have a home on any of the major US networks, the Hollywood Reporter revealed today, (May 9, 2012). The nominees for the 39th annual awards were announced yesterday, but as yet, it is unclear who will screen the show
The ABC soap opera General Hospital led the field in the awards, with 23 nominations, making a grand total of 56 nominations for Abc, in comparison to 51 for PBS. In the 'Best Daytime Drama' award - one of the biggest in the ceremony - General Hospital will compete with The Young and the Restless, Days Of Our Lives and All My Children. Sesame Street and the Young and the Restless each received 16 nominations. Bill Geddie, the executive producer of The View, will receive a lifetime achievement award. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' chairman Malachy Wienges said "When (Bill Geddie) and Barbara Walters created The View 15 years ago, they introduced a new and innovative daytime television talk show format. We at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences are proud to have Bill receive our 2012 Daytime Lifetime Achievement Award."
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 23, 2012 at the Beverly Hills Hilton. Last year's telecast reportedly drew an all-time low of 5.5 million viewers. This year's broadcast partner is yet to be announced.
