2011 Cma Awards Winners, Taylor Swift Steals The Show
The annual CMA Awards were held last night (November 9th 2011) with the country genre's poster girl Taylor Swift taking the plaudits by winning Entertainer Of The Year, beating an all-male opposition including Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban.
It's the 21 year-old's second time of winning the gong following a double success in 2009 when she also picked up Female Vocalist of The Year. Whilst at the awards, held in the Mecca of Country music, Nashville, Tennessee, Swift also performed for the assembled crowd of musicians and industry insiders by playing 'Ours' from third album 'Speak Now' - which topped the US Billboard Charts upon its release in 2010 and has since gone on to sell over 5.5 million copies worldwide. MTV News reports that the star played a stripped back performance, sitting on a large couch and playing her guitar.
It wasn't just Swift's night however; recent country crossovers The Band Perry were in a good mood following a Best Single award win for 'If I Die Young' - they recently appeared on Justin Bieber's Christmas album 'Under The Mistletoe'. Elsewhere there were wins for Lady Antebellum, who took Vocal Group Of The Year, Sugarland who won Best Vocal Duo and 'The Voice' coach Blake Shelton, who beat back the disappointment of losing the main award to Swift by taking 'Best Male Vocalist'. The awards were hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.
