YUSUF ISLAM HONOURED WITH PEACE PRIZE

YUSUF ISLAM, the artist formerly known as CAT STEVENS, is to be honoured with the Mediterranean Prize for Peace later today (04JAN07) in Naples, Italy. The MORNING HAS BROKEN singer, who quit pop music when he became a Muslim convert in the 1970s, is being awarded the prestigious accolade for the work he has done to promote peace in the world. Yusuf marked his musical comeback last year (06) by releasing his first contemporary album for almost 30 years, AN OTHER CUP. The Mediterranean Prize is assigned each year to personalities from the worlds of politics, culture and art who have, through their actions and contributions, helped reduce tensions and spread peace alongside shared values throughout the Mediterranean.
