WRITERS WON'T PICKET THE GLOBES PRESS CONFERENCE
Hollywood's striking writers have agreed not to picket Sunday's (13Jan08) Golden Globes press conference. The annual prizegiving ceremony was cancelled last week (ends11Jan08) after Writers Guild of America union bosses refused to grant organisers a waiver. The threat of picket lines at the glitzy event prompted many TV and film stars nominated to pull out of attending the Globes. As a result, the three-hour-ceremony has been reduced to an hour-long TV press conference, during which all the winners will be announced. Union bosses have confirmed to news outlets they won't be instructing writers to picket outside TV studios running with the press conference. Romantic drama Atonement leads the nominations with seven nods.
