WOMACK SIGNS UP FOR GORILLAZ

DAMON ALBARN has landed a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee on his new GORILLAZ album after inviting soul man BOBBY WOMACK to record with him.
Womack, who entered the Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2009 last weekend (04Apr09), has revealed he received a call from the band recently - and had no idea who they were.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "They called me from London and said, ‘Man, we want to do something with you.' In the days when I would get loaded (stoned), I would have thought this was great. Now that I’m straight, I think I’m too square to know where they’re at.
"I kept listening and thought, ‘Damn, why do they want me?’ It’s all new to me. The only thing that convinced me was my daughter said, 'Dad, you got to do this. They’re awesome.'"
Womack admits he thought Albarn's funky hitmakers were real gorillas.
The Across 110th Street singer adds, "I said, 'I worked with a lot of people, but I never worked with a gorilla.’"
Womack reveals he is currently adding vocals to music Albarn and his bandmates sent him: "I want to be a help and bring something to the table."
