WINEHOUSE MAKES US CHART HISTORY
Amy Winehouse has made US chart history with her latest album Back to Black.
The album, her first to be released in the US, entered the US Billboard chart at number seven, making her the highest debuting British female artist ever in the US albums chart.
Her rise to fame in the US music scene, which is notoriously difficult to crack, began at the start of this year with shows in a tiny pub in New York. These were then followed by an appearance on the David Letterman show last week and bigger shows in New York and LA.
On being told the news, Winehouse responded with amazement, saying: "You're kidding…that's unbelievable".
She added: "I'm really proud of this record."
Her success stateside comes hot on the heels of her current popularity in the UK. At last month's Brit awards she was named as best British female after entertaining the crowds with a rendition of her hit Rehab.
Back to Black is currently at number ten in the UK album chart after 18 weeks and is close to reaching triple platinum status.
