WINEHOUSE CLEARED OF BRIBERY CHARGES

AMY WINEHOUSE will not face any charges in relation to a bribery plot involving her jailed husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL. The Rehab singer was released on bail in December (07) after turning herself in at a London police station for questioning on the suspicion of perverting the course of justice. Fielder-Civil is currently being held on remand at London's Pentonville Prison and is awaiting trial on a similar charge after he attempted to fix the outcome of his trial for grievous bodily harm. He is alleged to have assaulted barman James King in June last year (06), and stands accused of trying to pay off King with $400,000 (GBP200,000) and a free holiday in return for withdrawing his statement. Winehouse was initially believed to have offered finance for the deal, but the charges against her were dropped this week (ends04Jan08) due to lack of evidence. Meanwhile, Fielder-Civil has been placed in solitary confinement after prison guards found him getting drunk behind bars and making calls on a cell phone he had smuggled into the jail, reports British newspaper the News of the World.
