WILSON SOBS ABOUT CHILDHOOD TAUNTS

Singer CARNIE WILSON couldn't hold back her tears as she recalled the taunts she received as a fat kid from school friends on reality show CELEBRITY FIT CLUB. The new mother signed up for the US TV show to help her lose the weight she put on during pregnancy, but never thought it would be such an emotional experience. In a taped episode of the show, which will air in America on Sunday night (13AUG06), Phillips sobs as she remembers her awful childhood. She says, "I used to be teased a lot - 'Your name is Carnie, like carne - 'meat' in Spanish. You've got a lot of meat on you.' "This is what hurt my self-esteem as a young, young girl. My spirit inside has always been as a fireball and it is because of my mom. "She would say, 'It is not just what you look like on the outside, it is who you are on the inside. That is going to get you where you want to go in your life.'" The WILSON PHILLIPS star underwent gastric bypass surgery in 1999 to shed half of her 300-pound (136 kilograms) bulk after being told she was morbidly obese.
