'WILSON DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL'

Hollywood actor Owen Wilson has been discharged from hospital a week after an apparent suicide attempt at his home in Los Angeles, according to reports.

People magazine reports that the actor is now at home and is being supervised around the clock. A source close to the Starsky and Hutch star told the magazine: "Owen is in bad mental shape but said he is thankful to be alive."

"He knows he came close to ending his life, and he is happy that he was saved from himself. He is basically at home with people watching him 24/7," the source added.

The star, who has asked for time to "heal in private", has pulled out of comedy movie Tropic Thunder as he seeks to recover from his problems. Preparations for the film, directed by friend Ben Stiller, were underway.

Last week, Santa Monica police visited Wilson's house over an attempted suicide bid, the department's police log revealed.

The law-enforcement agency's Call for Service report showed that officers attended a reported attempted suicide at the 38-year-old actor's house in the afternoon.

There had been widespread speculation in the media that Wilson had tried to take his life after his break-up with actress Kate Hudson.

A spokeswoman for the Cedars-Sinai medical centre, Cynthia Harding, had previously said that Wilson was "in good condition" but did not reveal why he had been hospitalised.

Wilson was nominated for an Oscar in 2002, when he competed in the best screenplay category for his work on The Royal Tenebaums.
