WILLIAMS FINED RECORD-BREAKING $82,500 FOR U.S. OPEN OUTBURST

Tennis ace SERENA WILLIAMS has been fined a record-breaking $82,500 (£51,560) for her tirade against a match official's ruling at the U.S. Open this summer (09).
The star athlete has been at the centre of an investigation since she lashed out at a lineswoman at the end of her semi final loss in September (09).
Williams, who has already paid a $10,000 (£6,250) penalty, now faces a "probationary period" at tennis' four major championships in 2010 and 2011.
Officials determined that she violated a "major offence" rule for "aggravated behaviour" and announced on Monday (30Nov09) they would be fining her the additional sum.
Williams also faces a fine up to $175,000 (£109,375) and could be barred from the following U.S. Open if she commits another major offence at any Grand Slam.
The fine is the largest in tennis history, breaking the previous record of $48,000 (£30,000), issued to Jeff Tarango following his outburst at the 1995 Wimbledon Championships.
