WILLIAMS CAN'T VOTE - BUT HOPES OBAMA WINS

Tennis star SERENA WILLIAMS is rooting for BARACK OBAMA to become America's next president, even though her religion forbids her from voting.
Williams and her sister Venus are among several million Jehovah's Witnesses in the U.S. who are forced to remain politically neutral and restricted from taking part in elections.
But the champ is secretly hoping Democrat Obama wins.
She says, "I don't really get involved in political affairs because of the way I was brought up, and, being a Jehovah's Witness, but it's exciting to see someone like Barack Obama have a chance to lead one of the world's biggest nations.
"It's good. It makes my heart smile."

Been a Jehovah's Witness for over 25 years. we are not forced to do anything, and we don't just off a whim become JWs, we study the bible and answer some 12o questions based entirely on the bible. Same questions for the 10 year old as for the 100 yr.old person. We don't vote for any other gov.just as people who vote, only vote in one country, the one they support in ideas and principle etc. We support Jehovah's kingdom (government) in the hands of his some Jesus Christ. And we try to be good citizens, so to speak in our treatment of others, but there are priciples we keep. Some are more grander than we are. thanx

As someone who has been a Witness for 29 years, I can tell you with certainty that not a one of us is forced to be politicallly neutral. I care very much about the issues facing all of us, not just in this country but earthwide. But in line with Jesus Kingdom not being any part of this world, (John 18:36) and his statement that his followers are no part of this world, I choose not to participate in the politics in any country, while at the same time, remaining a respectful citizen and obeying the laws of the land. Your article mispresents our beliefs. Not everyone who has ever had associations with Jehovah's Witnesses are actually practicing Witnesses. They may have had some affiliation with JW's at some point in their lives. But for Jehovah's Witnesses, putting neighbor before oneself and teaching others about God's Kingdom, not the fruitless, though perhaps sincere, endeavors of human governments, is the focal point of our lives. If a person claims to prefer one candidate over another then clearly they are not neutral in thier mind and heart. So can they really call themselves a Witness for Jehovah? Not as I understand it. I really wish they would quit saying they are Witnesses until they are practicing Witnesses.
