WILLIAM H. MACY REPLACES PIVEN ON BROADWAY
WILLIAM H. MACY is jumping into the Broadway hotseat to replace sick star JEREMY PIVEN in the current New York theatre production of SPEED-THE-PLOW.
Piven skipped a performance on Tuesday (16Dec08) complaining of illness, and has now pulled out the production for good, after doctors discovered high levels of mercury in his system.
Theatre bosses haven't waited long to cast a new star, and have hired MACy and Tony Award-winning stage actor Norbert Leo Butz to share the role until the play closes on 22 February 2009.
Piven's understudy is currently taking his place; Butz will take over 23 December through to 11 January and MACy is set to finish the show's run from 13 January (09) to 22 February (09).
