WELLER KEEPS HIS DISTANCE FROM JAM REFORMATION

LATEST: Former THE JAM frontman PAUL WELLER may have no idea his ex-bandmates have reunited without him under their old moniker, according to his spokeswoman. Earlier this week (19FEB07) bassist BRUCE FOXTON and drummer RICK BUCKLEY revealed they are embarking on a series of performances under the band's original name in May (07), with guitarist/keyboardist DAVID MOORE and vocalist RUSSELL HASTINGS replacing Weller. It will be The Jam's first UK tour in 25 years - but Weller is apparently struggling to understand the logic behind it without his participation. His spokeswoman says, "I'm intrigued that they could think of using the (band's) name. "I don't know what Paul thinks about it, or if he even knows. He's currently abroad." Buckley insists The Jam can succeed without Weller, but invited the star to perform with his bandmates if the opportunity arose. He says, "Paul Weller has a fantastic solo career and is one of the UK's most talented songwriters. Paul is always welcome to join us for the reunions, but until then, we've got a new tour and a new album to do." The group's 20-date UK tour will mark 30 years since the release of seminal album IN THE CITY in 1977.
