WELCH PRAISES 'UNGLAMOROUS' BRITS
American actress RAQUEL WELCH has praised the talents of veteran British actresses DAME JUDI DENCH and DAME MAGGIE SMITH, despite their lack of glamour. While Welch, 66, wishes US films had more roles for older women, she believes American stars have a "monopoly on glamour". She says, "You Brits are far better at appreciating women over 50. Dames Judi and Maggie are both wonderful, enchanting older women. "But I think glamour was invented for America - with Hollywood and the likes of MARILYN MONROE and ELVIS PRESLEY. It's our whole selling point. "There's incredible beauty, history, culture elsewhere but we've got the monopoly on glamour."
