WELCH: 'I'D HATE TO BE PATTINSON'
TWILIGHT actor MICHAEL WELCH is concerned by the constant hounding of his co-star ROBERT PATTINSON - insisting he'd hate to be as famous as the British hunk.
Pattinson has been thrust into superstardom after landing the role of Edward Cullen in the vampire hit, and is constantly followed by fans and paparazzi as he goes about his daily life.
The interest in Pattinson reached frightening levels last week (18Jun09) after he was hit by a moving taxi in New York as he reportedly ran away from a mob of fans.
And his fellow actor Welch, who plays Mike Newton in the film, is worried the star may never lead a normal life again - comparing his fame to U.S. President Barack Obama.
He tells MTV.com, "I've said over and over - literally, right now, Rob Pattinson and Barack Obama are the two most famous people in the world. I don't see how this is sustainable - is this gonna keep going for the rest of his life?"
"I understand it, it's Edward Cullen, I get it. But he's still Rob Pattinson first - he's still his own guy. Is it time to start getting concerned here? It's tough, man ... I don't know where his life is really headed.
"I don't wish I had Rob's life at all. I'm glad he's OK. And as long as people don't start ripping at him and breaking him in two, I think we'll be OK... I wish him the best, and hope he's going to be all right."
