Sudanese supermodel ALEK WEK's brother is still scarred by the persecution he suffered in Africa after helping his sisters escape the genocide back home. The catwalk star's sibling, Mayen, helped his sisters obtains visas and passports, which in turn helped them start new lives abroad. But he suffered for his actions - when Sudanese authorities learned about his family's emigration. Wek tells Vogue maagazine, "(He) was singled out by the government and persecuted for being part of a family of "traitors," since they knew his family had fled. "He was jailed and beaten. I know it was dreadful for him, although he's never talked about it. "Years later he made it to Canada, but the violence he'd suffered really scarred him."
