WEEZER STAR FUNDS PRISON MEDITATION FILM
WEEZER frontman RIVERS CUOMO has partly funded a new documentary about the effects of meditation on hardened criminals.
The Buddy Holly singer, who is a Vipassana meditation student, agreed to help finance the film, The Dhamma Brothers, after discovering how the peaceful soul-searching had been introduced to the Donaldson Correctional Facility in Alabama.
Courses were offered to the detention facility's most vicious criminals in 2002.
More than 30 inmates took the Vipassana meditation seminar, which included 10 days of complete silence and soul-searching through yoga and meditation.
The results of the course was caught on camera and Cuomo insists it makes a riveting film.
He says, "What struck me was how similar my experience is in the meditation course to how it is for these criminals serving life sentences.
"A few years ago, I might have felt a tremendous fear, and now I can walk into things feeling perfectly peaceful."
