WATSON CRITICALLY ILL IN HOSPITAL

British opera singer RUSSELL WATSON is fighting for his life in hospital. The tenor, 40, was due to undergo emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour from his brain at a private hospital in Cheshire, England on Thursday (25Oct07) morning. A spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed Watson was admitted on Wednesday (24Oct07) afternoon. She says, "Russell Watson is at the Alexandra Hospital. He came in yesterday afternoon. No other information can be given at this time." Watson's agent, Richard Thompson, described the tumour as "major". He adds, "Our thoughts are with Russell and his family. The singer had an emergency operation to remove a benign brain tumour in September 2006. He recovered but was forced to cancel television appearances and postpone a U.K. tour.
