WASHINGTON TO RECEIVE BLACK EDUCATION AWARD
Hollywood actor DENZEL WASHINGTON is to be honoured for his work in helping black students complete their education. The actor recently directed and starred in The Great Debaters - a movie inspired by a black college debate team battling an all-white Ivy League university team during the legal segregation of the 1930s. And now Washington and his wife Pauletta will be lauded by the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) - which will bestow upon the couple the prestigious Frederick D. Patterson Award, a prize given to those who have made a significant contribution to advancing black education. The pair will receive the award at a UNCF dinner in New York on 7 March (08).
