WASHINGTON LIKENS HIMSELF TO MALCOLM X

Sacked GREY'S ANATOMY star ISAIAH WASHINGTON has likened the media persecution of him to that suffered by race activists MALCOLM X and PAUL ROBESON. The actor was fired from the medical drama earlier this month (Jun07) in the wake of a homophobic remark he made about castmate T.R. Knight last October (06) - a comment he repeated at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year (07). He maintains the controversy has fuelled misconceptions about him, with many forgetting the good work he does for African charities. But Washington is pragmatic about the experience: "Maybe for 50 years and the history of media and television I represent something that's supposed to not exist. "This happened to Malcolm X, this happened to Paul Robeson - this misconception can happen to any man of power that loves himself and wants to spread that love and that humanity throughout the world."
