WAITS FEELS FOR LODI LOCALS
Singer TOM WAITS feels sorry for residents of Lodi, California - because the winemaking town will always be associated with CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL's tune STUCK IN LODI.
The Downtown Train singer is a proud Californian and hates to hear state towns and cities mocked in songs.
In an interview with Beck on the Loser hitmaker's website, Waits says, "It's (song) not a good advertisement for Lodi, 'cause you say, 'Stuck in Lodi again.' Who's gonna move to a place that this guy (John Fogerty) told the whole world he felt 'stuck in'?"
But Waits is not suggesting singer/songwriters should try to honour their favourite California places either - because songs about Los Angeles don't always work.
He adds, "Not every town gets their song. Actually, (Frank) Sinatra tried to do a song about Los Angeles. It was really lame... It embarrassed the s**t out of me.
"LA, You're a Lady. It was one of those lame, awful... Maybe it's the rhyme or the rhythm of the name Los Angeles."
