VOICE OF NEW WALLACE AND GROMIT LOVE INTEREST CONFIRMED
Sally Lindsay has been confirmed as the voice of the love interest for the new Wallace and Gromit special, A Matter of Loaf and Death.
The actress - famed for playing barmaid Shelley Unwin on Coronation Street - is to add her northern tones to the character of Piella Bakewell, the new love of hapless inventor Wallace (to be voiced again by Peter Sallis).
Creator Nick Park told Empire magazine that picking Lindsay for the role of Bakewell had happened by chance after he had heard her being interviewed.
"I was driving along the M5 listening to a radio interview and heard this colourful and characterful voice it was a perfect match for Wallace.
"I have been searching for a while and keeping my ears peeled since I started writing, wondering who might voice Wallace's love interest."
He added: "When I heard Sally on the radio I knew she was the one. As soon as I got home I IMDB'd her."
According to a press release quoted in the Empire report, Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death - which had previously been called Trouble 'at Mill - will see the plasticine pair running Top Bun, a new bakery business, using a "Wallace patent-pending" windmill.
But when Wallace falls for Piella Bakewell, "former star of the Bake-O-Lite bread commercials", his faithful companion Gromit is left to run the business single-handed.
And soon enough, the pair find themselves drawn into the mystery of the deaths of several local bakers - the eponymous 'matter of loaf and death'.
