VERVE STAR JONES: `WE SHOULDN'T HAVE SPLIT'
THE VERVE star SIMON JONES insists he and his bandmates were foolish to split in the late 1990s - they should have "chilled out for a bit".
Looking back, the bass player claims the Bittersweet Symphony rockers should have taken time to concentrate on solo ventures without ending the group - because then the much-hyped reunion wouldn't have been such a big deal.
And, after recording the first new Verve album in 11 years, he fears the group will be laughed at if members decide to split again in the future.
He tells Billboard.com, "This definitely is an ongoing concern; it's not something that we're all just gonna chuck away again.
"Looking back, I don't think we had to be so blunt and (say), 'Alright, we're splitting up!' really. We should've just chilled out for a bit and taken some time out, to be honest.
"I just hope we don't split up again, now... 'cause it becomes a bit silly, doesn't it?'"
Jones admits he's still a little surprised that the band came back together at all: "It's a bit of a shock to be doing it again, but a very nice shock, really."
