VERVE CLOSE GLASTONBURY WITH ATTACK ON EAVIS
The Verve closed this year's Glastonbury festival by criticising organiser Michael Eavis, who they suggested opposed their booking.
Lead singer Richard Ashcroft thanked Mr Eavis' daughter Emily for selecting them to headline the final day of the legendary festival.
Ashcroft said Mr Eavis had been "worried we weren't going to be as good as Keane or something".
"I want to thank Emily Eavis for inviting us to play Glastonbury. And I hope her dad realises why she booked us now," he said to the crowd on Sunday night.
Ashcroft also praised US rapper Jay-Z who won over critics of his booking with an impressive performance on Saturday.
"A shout out to Jay-Z for putting in a big performance last night. But tonight it's rock 'n' roll," the lead singer said.
Veteran singers Leonard Cohen and Neil Diamond also played the Pyramid stage on the last day of the festival.
On Saturday night troubled singer Amy Winehouse attracted more criticism after apparently punching a member of the crowd for grabbing her hair.
