VANDROSS' MOTHER LAUNCHES DIABETES CAMPAIGN
Late soul crooner LUTHER VANDROSS' mother has launched a new campaign urging youngsters to be careful what they eat - after losing her husband and her famous son to diabetes. Retired nurse MARY IDA VANDROSS, 82, insists the disease that has claimed her husband, three children and a grandson strikes early on and lies dormant for years. Using the release of her late son's hits album THE ULTIMATE LUTHER VANDROSS, the singer's mother wants parents to be more mindful of what their children are eating and urge them to make healthy choices. Launching her anti-diabetes campaign in US tabloid the Globe, May Ida says, "Young people aren't taking it seriously enough. This is a deadly disease and it's growing because we are not paying attention to our diet and not getting out there and exercising. "Young people never think they're in danger of dying, but they are."
