US AUDIENCES STILL ENCHANTED
Disney film Enchanted has held on to the number one spot in the US box office chart for a second week with $17 million (£8.3 million) in ticket sales.
Though its weekend gross dropped by 51 per cent, the Christmas caper still took twice as much as its nearest rival - comedy This Christmas, which took $8.4 million (£4.1 million).
Starring Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams as fairytale princess Giselle, who finds herself in the harsh reality of 21st century New York City, the Disney comedy played in 3,730 cinemas across the US.
The only new entrant in the top ten was MGM thriller Awake, starring Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba, which took $6 million (£2.9 million) from 2,002 screens.
Animated action flick Beowulf held on to third place, with $7.9 million (£3.8 million) in its third week on release, while videogame adaptation Hitman claimed fifth place in its second week in cinemas.
Vince Vaughn-starring comedy Fred Claus saw its gross fall by 47 per cent in its fourth week on release, while musical romance August Rush claimed seventh spot after two weeks on show.
And while the Coen brothers' No Country for Old Men all but tied with Dreamworks' Bee Movie for eighth and ninth positions, American Gangster rounded off the top ten.
