UP SOARS TO THE TOP AT THE U.S. BOX OFFICE
New family film UP has soared to the top of the U.S. box office to become the third biggest debut for a Disney Pixar film behind THE INCREDIBLES and FINDING NEMO.
Early estimates suggest the film, about a cantankerous old man, voiced by Ed Asner, who goes on a flying house adventure with a boy scout and a dog, opened with a $68.2 million (£45.4 million) opening weekend take.
Much-hyped horror film Drag Me to Hell failed to scare up huge numbers at the box office in America and opened with $16.6 million (£11 million) to come in third behind Night at the Museum sequel, Battle of the Smithsonian, which took its 10-day tally to $105.3 million (£70.2 million) with a weekend estimate of $25.5 million (£17 million).
