UNIVERSAL SUES AFTER JAY-Z ALBUM LEAKS ON MYSPACE

Lawyers acting for Universal Music Group filed a lawsuit against MySpace parent company News Corp yesterday (20NOV06), after SHAWN 'JAY-Z' CARTER's comeback album KINGDOM COME was leaked on the networking website last week (ends17NOV06). The 99 PROBLEMS rapper's entire album was made available on MySpace and bosses at Def Jam parent company Universal claim sales of the LP, which hits shops in the US today (21NOV06), will be effected by widespread illegal downloading. Def Jam chairman ANTONIO 'LA' REID tells AllHipHop.com, "I'm sure it's cut into our sales, and not by a small amount. "Even if it (sells) a million units it's not what it should have been." UMG and MySpace had been negotiating a deal for News Corp to pay a licensing fee for Universal content which has appeared on MySpace in the past.
