UNDERWOOD APOLOGISES TO MCCONAUGHEY OVER SEX JOKE SPEECH
CARRIE UNDERWOOD has apologised to MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY after making a sexual joke about the actor during her acceptance speech at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
The American Idol winner took to the stage at the prizegiving ceremony in Las Vegas on Sunday night (05Apr09) to receive the coveted Entertainer of the Year award.
MCConaughey, who was handing over the prize, used his time in front of the audience to tell a story about his youth, revealing he and his brother used to "pick up" women by telling them they made boots for country star George Strait.
And when Underwood joined MCConaughey on the podium, she quipped, "I want to see those boots, Matthew."
The singer admits she now regrets her choice of words - and insists she didn't mean to be rude.
She tells Fox News, "I'm so embarrassed, I totally embarrassed myself. I just blanked. You want to say something eloquent in a moment like that and I embarrassed myself. I'm sorry Matthew, I'm sorry to my family. I'm totally embarrassed."
