U2 WOW CROWD FROM BBC ROOF
Irish rock band U2 have performed an impromptu gig from the top of the BBC's Broadcasting House to promote the launch of their new album.
Led by front man Bono, the Dublin four-piece emulated the Beatles in treating passing Londoners to a surprise show as they performed two old tracks and two from their latest release in their 20-minute slot.
From their album No Line On The Horizon, the band performed Get On Your Boots and Magnificent, in addition to well-known hits Vertigo and Beautiful Day to a 5,000-strong crowd gathered on the streets below.
In a brief address before playing their new tracks Bono told the crowd it was "a great honour", adding: "This is the first time we've played these songs to people, so we hope we don't screw it up."
The band had earlier been on Radio 1 to promote what will be their 12th studio album when it is released on Monday.
