U2 - U2 TOP OF THE FLOPS

NEWS BY ARTIST ALPHABETICALLY

U2 TOP OF THE FLOPS

U2 have been named and shamed as the creators of the most disastrous stage shows of all time. The Irish rockers came top of a survey by US magazine Blender for the set on their 1997 Popmart world tour. The concert was plagued with a string of errors including smoking the audience out with special effects and getting trapped in a giant lemon that they were using as a stage prop. Blender magazine writes, "No musician is immune to the catastrophe of the onstage meltdown... absurd sets, drunken lead singers and horribly exposed miming." Other artists listed in the top ten were JEFFERSON STARSHIP and THE EVERLY BROTHERS.

The Original article where Contactmusic got this news from was a list of Worst Onstage Meltdowns from here www.blender.com The Article just mentions the failure of the 40-foot-high lemon. On the opening night of the tour, in Las Vegas on April 25, 1997, it did not open. So this Article says nothing about POP being the worst Tour. Contact Music took that article entirely out of context. This Article is a joke.

So some jealous people like to say. U2 fans loved that show. U2 is an evolving entity all unto itself, always evolving and always putting on superb sell-out shows, each show different from their last show. They have more respect for their fans than to put on the same shows and sing the same songs for 25 to 30 years. So it follows that an occasional style will not suit everybody in the world. So they had one tour out of a dozen that somebody didn't like -- so what????
