TURNER: 'MY FRIENDS THOUGHT BODY HEAT WAS A PORNO'
KATHLEEN TURNER's friends thought the actress had landed the lead role in a porn movie when they heard she was making her film debut in BODY HEAT. Turner was a struggling actress who supplemented her income by working as a waitress when she starred as a femme fatale opposite William Hurt in the 1981 movie. But her theatre friends were convinced Body Heat was Turner's X-rated route out of poverty because of its raunchy title. She says, "People would say, 'What, you've been away?' I would say, 'Actually, I've been starring in my first film.' And they'd say, 'Oh, what is it?' and I'd say, 'Well, it's called Body Heat.' And they'd say, 'Oh, porn? You really broke through, didn't you.'"
