TUPAC CONTROVERSY AUTHOR `LET GO' BY THE LOS ANGELES TIMES

The Los Angeles Times writer forced to retract a story about a 1994 murder attempt on late rapper TUPAC SHAKUR has lost his job.
Chuck Phillips has been `let go' by the newspaper during a series of layoffs, according to MTV News.
Earlier this year (08), Phillips' story about the 1994 shooting of rapper Shakur left editors and publishers with red faces after his sources proved to be inaccurate.
His January (08) article suggested Sean `Diddy' Combs and rap music heavyweight Jimmy `Henchman' Rosemond were involved in a plan to ambush Shakur at a New York Recording studio in 1994.
The rap star survived the gun attack, which took place two years before he lost his life in a drive-by shooting incident in Las Vegas.
The Times' editors printed a front-page apology, and have now retracted Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chuck Phillips' story, after an investigation revealed the report had been based on faked documents.
In the retraction, the newspaper said it wished to correct the "misimpression" Combs had been involved.
Combs and Rosemond have always denied involvement in the attack on Shakur. Both responded angrily to Phillips' piece and svengali Rosemond threatened to sue the publication for damages.
