TRUMP REFUSES TO PAY $10,000 FLAG APPLICATION FEE
Property mogul DONALD TRUMP is refusing to pay California officials a $10,000 (GBP5,000) application fee in his bid to fly a 400 square foot flag in Rancho Palos Verdes. The reality TV star upset locals in 2006 when he erected the illegal 21.34 metres (70 foot) flagpole at his club - the area's height limit is 4.88 metres (16 feet). But despite objections it's an eyesore in an area of natural scenic beauty, councillors gave Trump a temporary permit for his flagpole on the condition he submit an application for approval to the California Coastal Commission. Trump sent in his paperwork in August 2007, but has still not paid the $10,000 application fee. He says, "Since when do you have to pay to put up the American flag?"
