TRANSFORMERS ANOTHER JAR-JAR BINKS TO-DO
Setting off a cultural debate the likes of which has not been seen since Jar Jar Binks burst forth in Star Wars Episode I -- The Phantom Menace , jive-talking twin robots in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen are being accused of fostering negative stereotypes. In her review of the film on Wednesday, New York Times critic Manohla Dargis said, in reference to the two characters, Skids and Mudflap, that they indicate that "minstrelsy" remains in fashion in Hollywood. One writer on the website AllHipHop.com commented, "They're like the fools. ... The comic relief in a degrading way." But director Michael Bay told the Times, "We're just putting more personality in. ,,, I don't know if it's stereotypes. They are robots by the way."
