TOWNSHEND DISMISSES THE POLICE AS CLASSIC BAND
Outspoken rocker PETE TOWNSHEND has hit out at reformed trio THE POLICE in a New York radio interview - because he's sick of the ROXANNE hitmakers being dubbed a classic rock act.
The snooty star insists only bands like his group THE WHO and THE ROLLING STONES deserve the lofty title, insisting The Police are little more than a punk act.
In a webchat on radio station WAXQ-FM's website earlier this week (beg19MAR07) Townshend wrote: "The Police are punk... They're not classic rock.
"You've got the Stones and the Who: classic rock - finished. It's all over after that. This is just music. It's not clasic (sic) anything."
