TONY BENNETT HONOURED FOR BLACK RIGHTS CAMPAIGNING

Singing legend TONY BENNETT has been honoured by the Martin Luther King Foundation for marching with civil rights campaigner. The star risked his own life standing up next to MARTIN LUTHER KING when others were killed for doing so. He says, "HARRY BELAFONTE introduced me to Martin Luther King. Just last week my secretary said, 'Can you lend me one of your shoes?' And I said, 'What for?' And she said, 'In Atlanta they're making a beautiful statue of Martin Luther King and the people who have marched with him, they're putting their shoes in cement. "I'm so insistent in my personal life to promote education as an entertainer, as much as possible. That's my social statement, let's educate everybody, it eliminates ignorance. We're all here on this planet together so we should respect one another."
