IT'S NOT UNUSUAL to sweat, but Welsh pop sensation TOM JONES is no fan of perspiration.

Speaking to the Observer Woman magazine, the music legend explained that he has to select his wardrobe very carefully.

"I perspire a lot on stage, so the pants have to be black, otherwise the sweat will show through," he said.

Jones also revealed that he once had a penchant for extremely close fitting garments, claiming that at the start of his career, he wore the tightest trousers in the business.

"Everyone wore tight pants, but maybe not quite as tight as mine," Jones stated.

However, he revealed that his love of cosy leg wear once led to an embarrassing incident.

While performing the song KISS during a TV special in Cardiff, the singer squatted down as part of his dance routine, but the leather trousers he had on could not take the strain and split.

"I said, 'This is for people who don't believe I wear underwear,' and bent over so they could see the red briefs I had on," he said.

However, the move has now been dropped from his repertoire following the incident.

It is not clear what kind of trousers Jones will have on when he is the guest of honour at the 40th Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony later this year.

During the event, the singer will receive the Howie Richmond Hitmaker prize, which organisers stated will reward his "exceptional staying power and accomplishments".
