TINKER BELL TO TAKE OVER SPEAKING CLOCK

JM Barrie fans will hear Tinker Bell's voice for the first time when she becomes the voice of the speaking clock this weekend.

The fairy, created by Peter Pan author Barrie and immortalised in film by Disney, will replace the speaking clock's pips with bells as BT commemorate the end of British summer time.

Tinker Bell is about to feature in her first speaking part in a feature-length film which will be released on November 10th on Disney DVD and Blu-ray and will take over from Sara Mendes da Costa, the current voice of the speaking clock at 00:01 on October 26th.

"I love the speaking clock, and now, thanks to Disney sponsoring it this season, the sparkling tones of Tinker Bell will bring an extra bit of magic to our nation's most accurate and loved timepiece," said Ms Mendes da Costa, the fourth permanent voice of the speaking clock.

Brad Raymond, director of the forthcoming Tinker Bell movie, said the fairy's voice has "warmth, clarity and friendliness" making her a "natural choice" to provide the time when people dial 123.

"Who better to officially usher in a new season, than Disney’s most famous fairy with amazing tinkering talents?"" he added

"Tinker Bell says it best: 'It's all the work of fairies!'"

The speaking clock receives more than 70 million calls a year and is the benchmark for millions of other clocks, including Big Ben.
