THREE YEARS' PROBATION FOR UMA THURMAN STALKER
A former mental patient has been sentenced to three years' probation after being convicted of stalking and harassing Uma Thurman.
Jack Jordan, 37, had been charged with stalking and aggravated harassment after he reportedly sent the actress threatening letters and emails and attempted to break into her trailer on a film shoot.
Prosecutors had sought for Jordan to be handed a year in prison, but he has today been given the probation order on the proviso that he receives outpatient psychiatric treatment.
Judge Gregory Carro also imposed a five-year restraining order on Jordan and warned him that he will be jailed should he violate any of the court's terms.
"It's important that you understand that your conduct is unacceptable, is criminal," the judge said while sentencing on Monday.
Jordan is said to have sent Thurman a note bearing the line "My hands should be on your body at all times" and claimed he and the actress were "pre-destined" to be together.
The Kill Bill star had revealed her intense distress at Jordan's actions while testifying in the Manhattan supreme court in New York City in May, the first occasion on which she had come face to face with her alleged stalker.
He is said to have threatened to kill himself unless he was permitted to see her, as well as sending threatening emails to her family.
He told the court he would have stopped attempting to contact the actress had he known he was upsetting her.
"I heard things like, 'Would you leave?' instead of, 'Sir, you're making Ms Thurman nervous. Please leave," Jordan was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying.
